Manchester City have secured top spot for Christmas with another dominant display as they defeated Newcastle United 4-0.

Ruben Dias capitalised on a communication error in the Newcastle defence after just four minutes to easily nod into the goal.

Joao Cancelo then doubled City’s lead with a stunning strike from distance to add to his assist for the opener.

The Magpies didn’t wither as they did their best to get back into the game but found it difficult to break down City and create any clear chances. They should have been awarded a penalty when Ederson wiped out Ryan Fraser, however.

The resilience Newcastle showed in the opening 45 minutes didn’t last in the second-half, though, as the Blues took the sting out of the game and eventually found two more goals through Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling.

The win means City will spend Christmas at the top of the table and have extended their lead over third-placed Chelsea to six points after they were held by Wolves.
