Real Madrid had it all too easy at the Nuevo Los Carmenes, as they swatted aside Granada by a score of four goals to one.
Los Blancos extended their winning streak over their hosts to 13 games with a two-goal advantage before 25 minutes, from a Marco Asensio finish and a toe-poke from Nacho after a smart corner routine between Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
Despite a scare against the run of play on 34 minutes, when Luis Suarez’s left-footed drive deflected off the goalscorer Nacho and into the far corner beyond the wrong-footed Thibaut Courtois, Carlo Ancelotti’s team seemed comfortable throughout.
The dismissal of Monchu, who chopped down Vinicius Junior after the Brazilian had capped off an incredible Madrid move that included wonderful build-up play from Modric and Karim Benzema, was a blight on a spirited Granada game.
Granada manager Robert Moreno shouted his displeasure at his side’s dismissal only to be sent to the stands. Then, things got much worse for the home side when Ferland Mendy tapped home following another wonderful through ball from Casemiro that sliced the defensive unit apart.
In the end, it was an easy victory for the visitors, who took to the summit of the standings ahead of Real Sociedad’s match later on Sunday. Real have now won their past seven games in all competitions and will travel to take on Sheriff in the Champions League with confidence.
However, the loss means Granada drop into the bottom three on the basis of goal difference with Elche. Athletic Bilbao awaits them next week.
