Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju popularly known has Bobrisky has been sentenced to six Month imprisonment by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court Lagos for offense ranging on mutilation of Naira and money laundering.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged the controversial cross dresser, Bobrisky on a six count charge on mutilation of Naira which is an offense punishable under section 21(1) of the CBN Act on the 4th of April, 2024. Bobrisky had pleaded guilty to the count charge and the Judge had reserved judgment for the 12th of April 2024.
The provision of section 21(1) of the CBN provides that “a person who tampers with a coin or note issued by the Bank is guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to imprisonment for a term not less than six months or to a fine not less than #50,000 or to both such fine and imprisonment”.
Bobrisky Counsel, Ayo Olumofin had expressed optimism that the Judge will tamper justice with mercy because Bobrisky was a first time offender.
In the Judgment delivered today the 12th of April, 2024 at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, the Judge wielded the sledge Hammer by imposing the maximum punishment on Bobrisky without an option of fine.
