As the nation celebrates its Democracy Day, and mark 26 Years of uninterrupted democratic rule, United Nations, UN, Peace Ambassador and Country Director of IAWPA Nigeria, Amb. Dr. John Adekorede Aderibigbe have urged all political stakeholders to prioritize sportsmanship and public service values as we approach the 2027 elections.

 

Aderibigbe stated that in a democratic society, leaders are meant to serve the people, and not rule with an iron fist, which is presently the trend in Nigeria.

 

He further stressed that It is imperative that Nigerian leaders should to prioritize the needs and welfare of citizens, and that citizens are given the freedom to choose their leaders without fear or coercion.

 

“As we celebrate our democracy, let us recommit to building a Nigeria where leaders are accountable to the people, and where citizens can exercise their rights without restriction.

 

“This can come into reality through the promotion of sportsmanship and public service values, this will in turn enable us to build a brighter future for all Nigerians.

 

“I call on all Nigerians to join us in this effort, and to work together towards a more perfect democracy”.

 

The Peace Ambassador however call on Nigerians to remain steadfast and be optimistic that the desired change they yearn for is achievable.

 

He also urge the political leaders and those in the corridors of power to promote the sanctity of democracy, electoral process, justice, equity and fairness; and also allow the will of the people to come to fruition as we look forward to the 2027 election.
