For everything that has a beginning, there surely is an end to it. Barcelona striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has taken media houses and the general public by surprise with the announcement of his retirement from international football.
The 32-year-old professional footballer made 72 appearances for Gabon. During his time with the Gabon national team he netted 30 goals to become the all-time leading goalscorer for his country.
The former Arsenal forward tagged his time with the national team since he made his debut in 2009; 13 years of pride while announcing his retirement through an open letter: “After 13 years of pride in representing my country, I announce that I am ending my international career,”.
He appreciated the good people of Gabon for their support in all situations: “I would like to thank the Gabonese people and all those who have supported me in the good like the bad times.
Aubameyang also reflected on the memories from his CAF player of the year award win in Nigeria. He appreciated the President of Gabon and also his father.
The Gabon Football Federation revealed that Aubameyang’s retirement letter was tendered on Tuesday May 17, 2022.
