The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has further escalated, as violence broke at the Wadata Plaza, PDP Headquarters in Abuja.

The chaos prompted the Police to fire teargas to disperse supporters amid an ongoing leadership tussle between rival factions of the party.

It was gathered that the chaos broke following the arrival of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and the newly elected PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki-led Executive arrived, triggering clashes with Police and supporters of Senator Anyanwu’s faction who tried to block their entry.

It was gathered that supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike-led faction of the PDP took over the surrounding streets of Wadata Plaza, comprising largely of women and youth groups.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions targeted at the PDP National Chairman, Turaki.

Some of the messages on the placards include “No to Turaki,” “Turaki must go,” among others.

It would be recalled that Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, emerged as the National Chairman of the PDP in a disputed convention on Saturday, boycotted by the Wike-led faction.

The Wike-backed faction took over the secretariat,, led by the sacked Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.

The bloc was said to have stormed the secretariat building, accompanied by a legion of heavily-armed police personnel.
