Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, Nigerians In Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, have showered encomium on Kamaru Usman, former UFC Welterweight Champion of the World, following his triumphant victory and redemption against United States of America Fighter, Joaquin Buckley, in Atlanta, USA.

The 37 Year Old Nigerian UFC Fighter delivered a commanding performance against the American fighter by securing a unanimous decision victory and bringing to an end a Four-Year winless streak.

The Judges scored the Five-Round Bout 49–46, 49–46, and 48–47 in favor of the Nigerian-American, who displayed trademark wrestling prowess, sharp cage control, and tactical brilliance.

Celebrating the Victory of the Nigerian Fighter, Dabiri-Erewa took to her X Handle, (formerly Twitter) and wrote:

“Congratulations to the Nigerian Nightmare, Kamaru Usman, as he beats Joaquin Buckley at UFC Atlanta. Proudly Nigerian. Hearty congratulations.”

She also shared a collage featuring action shots from the bout and a 2021 photo of herself with Usman holding the UFC welterweight title belt.

It would be recalled that the Nigerian Fighter dominated early in the fight, landing 16 unanswered significant strikes and controlling the tempo with strategic takedowns and positional superiority—reminding fans of the skill set that once made him a pound-for-pound great.

Reacting on his triumph during his post match interview, Usman said, “It feels good. It’s been a while.

“I needed to get that monkey off my back. I know I can still do this at the highest level.”

The victory improves Usman’s professional MMA record to 21 wins and 4 losses.

The victory have also silence his critics who had begun to doubt his ability following recent injuries.

Addressing repeated jabs about his physical condition, particularly his knees, Usman didn’t hold back.

He said, “Everybody wants to get on the internet and talk sht, ‘Oh, his knees, his knees.’ Well, shut the f *up. I can still do what I do.

Despite Buckley’s late flurry in the final round, Usman’s early dominance proved too much, ending the American’s six-fight unbeaten run.

The win, Usman’s first since November 2021, could reignite his path to another title shot.

He closed with a bold message to the division’s elite: “Those knockouts will come. The next one, whoever it is for that title—I’mma see about you.”
