Lagosians have expressed concern and discomfort over the announcement made by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC, of a 25-day planned power outage that will affect parts of Lagos State and surrounding areas under its network.

The EKEDC in a notice shared over the weekend via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, EKEDC said the blackout will begin on Monday, July 28, and continue daily until Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

The Company explained that the outage is necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, carry out critical maintenance on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.

“During this period, residents should expect intermittent electricity supply and load shedding across the Eko Disco network,” the statement read.

The affected areas include several communities and business hubs within the EKEDC coverage zone, which includes parts of Lagos Island, Lekki, Festac, Apapa, and Surulere, among others.
