Manuel Agogo was born on 1 August 1979. Commonly known as “Junior” the Ghanaian forward played for various clubs- in Africa, North America and Europe. He represented the Black Stars Of Ghana internationally, playing 27 games and scoring 12 goals.
He scored a crucial late winner for Ghana against Nigeria at the 2008 African Cup of Nations quarter-final match, as Ghana ended Nigeria’s record of three consecutive AFCON semi-final appearances.
Agogo scored a total of 143 goals for both club and country. But unfortunately, things took a sad turn for him. He suffered a stroke in January 2015 and the situation worsened as time passed.
It got to a stage where he was battling to speak properly. He was sick for quite a long time and it eventually resulted in his death in a London hospital in August 2019. He was 40 years old at the time of his death.
