Dr. Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education and a human rights activist, has reacted to the Supreme Court’s affirmation of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election. In her response, she described the situation as a “Criminal Enterprise Gang” and questioned where the country’s hope now resides.
Ezekwesili also questioned the course of action for Nigerian citizens who aspire to build a just and equitable society in the wake of the judicial confirmation of criminality as an official norm. She stated the historical precedent that suggests that every criminal enterprise ultimately carries the seeds of its own destruction. Ezekwesili emphasized the futility of dishonest gains, asserting that nature inherently rejects and ultimately addresses such ill-gotten gains from within.
It is important to note that her statement is based on the judgment delivered by Justice John Okoro, who led a panel of five Supreme Court justices, affirming Bola Tinubu’s victory and dismissing the appeals brought by Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, which challenged the ruling of the Presidential Elections Petitions Court (PEPC).
