The seven-time continental champions will lock horns with the Central Africans after they finished as Group B runners-up
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will face the Congolese U-20 national team in the quarterfinals of the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations ongoing in Egypt.
Congo set up a date with the Flying Eagles, seven-time winners of the competition, after finishing as runners-up in Group B.
The Small Leopards drew goalless with the Central Africa Republic on Sunday evening at the Cairo International Stadium to maintain their unbeaten run at the U20 Afcon.
Earlier in the competition, Congo defeated South Sudan and held Uganda U-20 to a 2-2 draw to conclude their group-stage campaign with five points.
After finishing Group B equal on points with Uganda, lots were drawn, which placed the East Africans as the group leaders.
Congo will look to make an impression similar to their first appearance at the AFCON tournament in 2007 when they won the tournament as hosts.
However, in Nigeria, Congo meet the team that has been the most successful at the championship.
The Flying Eagles are aiming for an eighth continental title in Egypt. That objective suffered an opening-day hiccup in the 1-0 loss to West African rivals Senegal.
But the Nigerian lads bounced back to beat hosts Egypt on matchday two and Mozambique’s Mambas on Saturday.
The clash between Nigeria and Congo will kick off at 5 pm on 2 March 2023 at the Cairo International Stadium.
The winner of the fixture will claim one of Africa’s four tickets to the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia.
