The Six Year Jail Term given to Simon Ekpa, Biafra Separist Leader by a District Court in Finland on charges bothering on Terrorism related Crime has been applauded by a section of Nigerians.

It would be recalled that Ekpa was arrested by Finnish authorities on 21 November 2024, following an investigation by the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation, NBI, into allegations of inciting terrorism and promoting violence through social media, activity that was believed to have contributed to unrest in southeastern Nigeria.

Following his arrest, Ekpa was remanded in custody by the Päijät-Häme District Court, which determined that the charge was based on “public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent”, alleged offenses dating from August 2021 to November 2024.

The NBI froze Ekpa’s assets, as well as those of his associates and related companies..

Following tye verdict by the Court, some sections of Nigerians have showered encomium on the Finnish Government for not wielding the big stick.

They stated that Ekpa was a threat to the unity of Nigeria and the world at large.

Ndubuisi Anyaele, Chairman, Igbo Youth Renaissance Movement, stated that the verdict was putting a right peg in the right hole saying that Ekpa is one of the architects of the problem and unrest bedeviling the Igbos in the South East, that has led to the lost of lives and properties.

He added that no doubt the Sentencing of Ekpa will bring relative peace to the region.

On the Social Media space, mixed feelings have trailed his Sentencing, while some praised the Finland Judicial System, some said he should have been extradited to Nigeria.

@Gbeminiyi_10, stated on X that Six years Jail Term was too small for the magnitude of disaster, loss of lives and properties he had caused in the East, saying Life Imprisonment should have served him better.

Another X user, @Akinnugba2308, said that it was justice well served for the Separist Leader, who he said have wrecked havoc in the East.
