Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, has urged newly elected and Sworn In Chairmen of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in the State to embark on people-oriented projects that will positively impact their communities and the lives of their people.
Obasa gave this charge
during the Leadership Summit organized by the Lagos Assembly to educate and sensitize Local Government Chairmen and other Principal Officers on effective governance.
He emphasized that LGs and LCDAs remain the closest tier of government to the people and therefore must fulfill their campaign promises through infrastructure provision, open-door policies, and inclusive leadership.
“We are ready to work with you as members of the House for you to achieve your goals and objectives. Don’t starve the people; ensure you make provisions for road infrastructure and embrace transparency.
“Our votes are dwindling, and since you are closest to the people, you must let them feel your impact, and have a sense of belonging”, Obasa said.
He further advised the Council bosses to maintain cordial relationships with their deputies, councillors, and other stakeholders, while also engaging Community Development Associations, CDAs, and Community Development Committees, CDCs, for grassroot development, and also bridging the communication gap.
Highlighting legislative support, Obasa explained that the Assembly’s decision to extend the tenure of Local Government Chairmen was aimed at fostering sustainable development.
He also assured the Chairmen that training and seminars would be organized for Councillors to enhance their capacity.
Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Conference 57, commended the Speaker and the Assembly for their guidance.
He however pledged that the new Chairmen would not disappoint the people or the party.
“A lot is expected from us, and we have no reason to fail. We believe every arm of government must work together for the stability of Lagos, and we are committed to ensuring voters mobilization and registration as we approach the 2027 elections.
“We wont rest on our oars and make sure that the peopel enjoy the dividends of democracy and have no reason to regret electing us into office”, Olowa said.
