Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen could not hide his disappointment as he visibly shed tears with Napoli failed to clinch the Serie A title on Sunday after 33years, following their 1-1 draw with Salernitana.

The Partenopei had the opportunity to lift the Scudetto following Lazio’s 3-1 loss to Inter, and things were initially looking good after a Mathías Olivera strike in the 62nd minute.

Unfortunately for the Nigerian and his teammates, Boulaye Dia had other ideas and scored an equaliser with less than 10 minutes to go, forcing the two teams to share a point apiece at a deflated Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Whilst the draw doesn’t impact Napoli’s eventual Scudetto success, it does delay the party until next week at the earliest, something felt by Osimhen more than anyone else.

The Nigerian forward was at fault for Dia’s equaliser, allowing the Senegalese striker to slip past him into the penalty area before he smashed the ball into the back of the net, and he was clearly furious as Salernitana celebrated around him.

When the full-time whistle came, Osimhen was visibly emotional, crying and covering his face on the pitch, with his teammate cheering him off the pitch.

Osimhen and his Napoli side must now beat Udinese next weekend to claim the Scudetto away from home.
